| "This was a really bad idea," Devin thought, smoothing back his hair so that it pushed behind his ears, off his nose. His fingers tugged slightly on the last few strands of hair his fingers attached to, before finally sliding off, exhaling slowly. It's not like he wasn't up to this, but it was so very pointless. A simulated battle environment used as a test in the Battle Dome. It was a more advanced Registration system, allowing him to log onto a Leaderoards to compare battle types to other challengers, seeing who could eliminate the same test monsters within a set period of time. Depending on acquired injuries, items used, equipment necessary, and time expired, an overall score, grade, and therefore rank could be added. This was only a single Battle dome in an averaged sized town, so the chances of him finding somebody worth fighting here was slim.
The only weapon he had on him was a single longsword, barely wider than a rapier, of mythril make. This caused the computer to downgrade him -300 points from the start of the battle, from a beginning score of 1,000. The Iron Giant stood at approximately ninteen feet, if Devin was not mistaken from the description he had obtained before starting the simulation. The white hologram panels shifted with magic pulsar, creating the monster in its most physical form, but simply controlled by an AI. It wasn't really there, but as far as matter, and Devin's brain could understand, it was very much there. It's flesh was made of Iron, and the eleven foot broad sword it carried in its right hand was made of Adamantium, an unbreakable ore that subliminated, but did not melt, making it almost impossible to forge. Indestructible. It's glowing red eyes were the only discernable feature on its face, glaring down at Devin like rubies . . . it blinked, and Devin did not. Which seemed to annoy it . . .
With a sudden heft of the sword, the Iron Giant swung in a horizontal arc, aiming to behead Devin right off the bat. Placing his weight on his left foot, Devin flipped over without raising his arms, so that when the blade passed below him, his face avoided grazing it at the last second by less than an inch, before falling in a crouch to the ground. The creature's reflexes were superhuman, though, and it proceeded to turn the blade on its flat, swinging it back. Devin's weight on his hands and feet equally, leaped into the air, placed a foot on the wide blade, and flipped himself over it, landing perpendicular to the Giant's stance. Pivoting and dashing in the same instant, Devin ran towards the Giant's feet, only for the Giant's large blue left hand to reach down, as if to crush his skull. Devin's left hand, shiny and almost as brightly colored as the sheath of the blade - silver - withdrew his longsword, held it with both hands, and lunged, stabbing it into the palm of the giant. Blue blood squirted in a small shower from the wound, but it was too minor to make any noticable damage. The blade again stabbed for Devin, this time as if to sever his head with the tip. And he was not in a stance to easily evade it - it was coming towards his side. Again planting his weight on his left foot, Devin flipped in the air, this time landing on the blade as it swung, but his weight so unbalanced he had to proceed to yet another flip, this time turning to face the Giant's hand. By the time it was aware of his evasion, Devin was already at the hilt of the blade, kicked off from it, and landed on the Giant's wrist, quickly leaping up and grabbing its shoulder guard, and pulling himself up behind the spike. Having removed the longsword from its palm and thrown it into a blue puddle on the ground (a cement arena was starting to emerge, low ceilinged . . . Devin recognized it as an indoor prison basketball court), the Giant swatted at Devin on the forefront of his spike, but Devin swung around the spike, so the Giant managed only to splatter his iron shoulder the color of enflamed steel.
Kicking off, Devin's fingers managed to grab the Giant's right horn, pulling himself up onto the creature's head, but staying on the spike. Again, the Giant attempted to crush Devin, but Devin flung himself off the nineteen feet to the ground, rolling, but remaining relatively unharmed. The Giant, on the other hand, had managed to skewer its own left hand on the horn, showering the entire court with a good deal of its disgusting blue blood. Devin noticed, standing up in an instant, a blue +300 animation symbol formed above the Giant's head. He'd gotten bonus points. Nice. The Giant's sword movements continued, becoming incredibly erratic and poorly thought, as it was blinded by its own blood. After a few seconds, it got the idea to slash down at where Devin was, and he knew it was completely capable of dispatching him the second that it came in contact. He just managed to roll away as the broad sword connected with the ground, shattering six feet worth of cement and sending shattered pieces of it through the air. Midway through his roll, Devin grabbed his bloodstained longsword, jumped to his feet, and then jumped up, grabbing the wide blade of the back of the sword, his fingers barely managing to cover the width of the blade. The giant finally managed to pull its hand off its horn, and even more blood fell, staining Devin's face with the sticky blue substance, his spiky hair slicked down until his breath inhaled the obnoxious fumes. Just as it managed to blink the blood out if its eyes, it had already lifted the blade to its climax, and Devin's gripped the back of the blade's girth tightly, planting his black boots against the adamantium blade. It's eyes had barely widened in surprise before Devin's kicked off, flipping and landing on the beast's forehead with such pressure that it began to topple over, Devin not having time to slip in the 1.7 seconds before the creature would hit the ground. With the same momentum, Devin plunged his longsword into the Giant's right eye, braining him instantly.
And, in that 1.7 seconds, Devin fell to the ground, as the Giant disintegrated, and he crouched to absorb the impact to the newly white panels below. The blood vanished from his face, as did the long sword in his hand. He was again in a white room, and a white door appeared to his right. He barely noticed as the screen announced the calculation of his score, before he walked out of the room with a mutter of, "Pointless." Original Score: 1,000 Time Bonus: 0400 Damage Bonus: 1,000
